Directions to Castellaro
By road
Assuming you are travelling from Northern Europe, you take the A1 autostrada (Milano-Firenze). Exit at MODENA Nord and follow signs to ABETONE, FORMIGINE and MARANELLO (Vignola). After Maranello turn right onto the SS12 to PAVULLO (approx 25km). Continue on the same road through Pavullo and Querciagrossa, then take the left turn signed to RENNO and SESTOLA (SS12). After a series of mountain bends going down, the road crosses a bridge over a river then starts to climb upwards, passing through CASINE and arriving at CASTELLARO (approx 6 km after the bridge).
Castellaro is a very small village. Immediately after the main group of houses turn right into VIA TORRICELLA (NB: this is just BEFORE the road bears left at Puccini's car sales garage with cars on the forecourt - if you pass the garage you have gone too far!). Drive up Via Torricella and take the second turning on the LEFT. (There is a sign saying 11 - 27 'Gia Casa Taddeo'). Drive into the marked field on your right and park where shown. The house is at the top of the terraced field. The journey from the autostrada exit should take no more than 1.5 hours.
By rail
International and fast trains go to BOLOGNA. 5 mins from the railway station is the bus station where you take a bus to VIGNOLA terminal (approx. 1 hr) and then another bus to SESTOLA (approx. 1 hr). We can arrange to meet you in Sestola, a few minutes from us by car. Late in the day there are no buses to Sestola, in which case it is possible for us to collect you from Vignola by car.
If you catch a train that stops at MODENA (before Bologna) you can take a bus to PAVULLO or RENNO and then another to Sestola. We can provide further information on bus timetables at the time of your booking.
By air
Nearest airport is BOLOGNA - Giuseppe Marconi Airport on the NW outskirts of Bologna. Car hire is available from the airport at reasonable rates. It takes about 1.5 hours to drive to Castellaro, via VIGNOLA. From the airport, follow signs to the tangenziale. Take the second 'tangenziale' sign (NOT the autostrada) in the direction of Casalecchio di Reno. Turn off onto the SS569 for VIGNOLA. Drive through Vignola following signs for Marano sul Panaro, then FANANO and SESTOLA. Continue along the road to Fanano and Sestola for approx 30km after Vignola. Soon after a big pizzeria on the right called 'Al Boschetto', take the right turn marked SESTOLA and CASTELLARO, which climbs up into the hills. Then watch for the CASTELLARO sign.
(NB: Do NOT take the 2 left turns marked 'Sestola' only.) Continue along the same road until you reach the T-junction at the end, then turn left signed to Castellaro and Sestola. Pass through CASINE and CASTELLARO (approx 6km). Castellaro is a very small village.
